Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!
“Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living, it's a way of looking at life through the wrong end of a telescope.”
Lately....
Pre-Spring cooking, cleaning, organizing and of course, winter.
Real Life Wonder Woman!
I'm pretty sure this is Elizabeth Warren in the alternate reality~
Happy Birthday Edward Gorey! or E is for Edward...
Today is the birthday of one of my favorite writers and artists. I got to visit his home on Cape Cod, as many of my vacations have a tendecy to revolve around my favorite books and artists. :o)
It was a beautiful day and very inspiring...If you ever get the chance-you should absolutely go! He was so interesting and would set up his characters before he drew them.

45th Parallel Distillery, File Under "Food Science"
This past Saturday I had the very fun experience of visiting a vodka distillery in Wisconsin. It's located about an hour from where I live in Minnesota. It was a cool, little place with friendly people and a tasty product(or three).
You can visit as well, http://www.45thparallelspirits.com/
They have several unique distinctions including being one of the few distilleries that makes everything from scratch. The farm that grows their corn is right down the street and right smack on the 45th Parallel. They even get the lids for some of their bottles from a company next door as they try to keep everything they can local. I think that is really cool!
Here our tour guide is giving us a little show of how they make the gin. Which, I liked quite a bit. It had a very light juniper flavor, a nice change as sometimes the juniper can be a little over whelming.
The owners are moving into making whiskey. These barrels can also be used to make your own custom blend(if you can afford it that is).
I was quite happy to try the vodka and to take home a bottle of Midwest Gin and Madison Avenue Limoncello-the company's sweet addition and I'm pretty sure everyone on the tour bought a bottle as it is only available at the distillery. Yum!
Happy Valentine's Day!
Have a WONDERFUL DAY!
On the way to 300....
I'm putting up new things in my shop all week!!!!!!!!
Stop the flow of DIRTY MONEY AND KITTEN HATERS!
As funny as this is, it's also sort of sad that we can only turn to our comedians for honesty~that said this is political satire at it's finest-again.
Elizabeth Warren for President!
Today Elizabeth Warren's facebook page contains this link.
You should read it and go to the letter.
Most of the organizations responsible for the economic crisis have yet to be held accountable and hide under the guise of the "free market" and "capitalism"-cleverly worded ways to behave unbound and with unethical practices. Everything is in place for it to happen again. Help stop yourself from being taken advantage of: read and sign the letter. Contact your representatives. America is for EVERYONE not just those of us who seem to be willing to step on everyone else regardless of what the consequences are to the country at large.
It's totally normal....
I'm just going to assume everyone has a narwhal in their bedroom.
Chicago!
I have this somewhat strange habit of going to the same places over and over when I travel. I am trying to not do that too much anymore. One of those places is Chicago. I just love that town! I have been there no less than a dozen times!
If you ever get the chance to visit I can't say enough good things about the city. It has so much to offer.
Occupy Geekery
The importance of the disclosure of Stephen Colbert's Super PAC is something we should all make note of-it's not being funded by corporations and has raised a million dollars from people like you and me.
That means we can fight back together and don't need to hide behind countless ill-gotten gains.

Additionally, President Obama's Super PAC is also not raising countless dollars from special interests. That said, his party fund raising -which has to follow stricter rules of limits and disclosures-is out pacing everyone in the Republican nominee field *by a lot*

The elections don't have to belong to any organization or business- if we don't let it.
OMD was awesome. Twice last year.
Two times last year I saw OMD. This is a shot from their show in Chicago which was very good and lots of fun. However, it was nothing compared to the excitement and energy they brought to Minneapolis with them! They are now back in the studio working on new stuff. I was a fan before the shows now, I am a ~big~fan. They clearly adore their audiences.
Trivia!
Something else that has happened the last few Februarys: playing in the St. Cloud University 50 hour Trivia Tournament. I'm fairly sure we just do it so we can eat and drink and look up silly facts for 50 hours at a time! All in our pajamas.
Things to do in 2012, not when you're dead.
Thinking about things I'd like to accomplish this year.
The last month has been rather quiet as I was sick for about 3 weeks.
It started on such a high note with the success of the NYE party!
I did get to have a weekend with some friends in a cabin in Wisconsin a couple of weeks ago which was lots of fun even though I was still on meds.
1. Clean out my closet. I know this is stupid but I have so many clothes I don't wear. I used to manage a huge thrift store and it's pretty easy to buy everything you want for $1. I've actually started this project and I am halfway done.
I decided to try on everything I own and if it doesn't at the very least make me feel cute & comfortable, I'm getting rid of it. Life is too short to look like crap in your clothes. Plus, being a girl is hard enough without hating what you're wearing! It's already been making me feel better.
2. I am going to learn to make bread. I have this friend who is an amazing cook and bread baker. He's going to come over very soon for lessons!
3. I am going to make 300 pieces of jewelry. I've started making things and will be off to pick up supplies tonight at a sale!! Woohoo!
4. I want to explore some of the little towns around Minnesota. There was a great article in a regional magazine last summer talking about all the cute and quirky places around here!
5. I want to continue to stay healthy and exercise. I lost about 15 lbs. last year with biking and walking. I'm going to keep this up~ Plus, walking home from work saves money and pollution which makes me even happier!
6. I need to practice my French and get to work learning Spanish.
7. This is a huge one for me. I have been working on three YA books and I'm going to finish at least two this year.
8. I am going to get my blog all tricked out! I can do some of it but, I'm going to start enlisting all my geek friends for help!
That's what I got so far. I'm sure I have a million other little goals every day! :oP
Happy Chinese New Year !
On Valentine's Day in 2011 my sweetie snuck home after we'd left for the day together and left me the Twin Peaks dvd set and a beautiful orchid. Orchids are my favorite flowers. I think they are so unique looking.
Elysian Fields
I think it can be really easy to get caught on the negative things that happen in a year. I decided to focus on all the cool stuff that happened in 2011 starting with the NYE party I put on with friends Dec. 2010 to Jan. 2011. Our theme was Acropolis NOW. A mash up between Ancient Greece and Tron. One of my favorite things I did was create an Elysian Fields Lounge area for people to hang out in!
Happy New Year
I had so much fun setting up our NYE event. I love doing this stuff. This was a Bollywood Lounge area. It was such a great time. I hope everyone had a fantastic New Year's and that 2012 is amazing!
