As I continue my not-so-slow descent into madness, I find myself wanting to be more and more around whimsical things and in whimsical places. I suppose as the forces-that-be continue to sterilize and destroy everything that is unique about many places, this desire is probably not that strange.
One place in Minnesota that fits the bill of delight and everyday wonder is Big Stone Mini Golf. This seems to be a collective of some sort and I do find myself curious about the people who created it and some seem to live there, but I am not sure how to go about learning about them and I am also big into “minding my own business” phase these days.
I have been out there several times over the last couple of years and something different seems to have been added each time. The golf course is fitted into a small plot of the seemingly extensive land and the holes are cleverly wound into each other. The rest of the park has goats, sculptures, picnic tables, and a variety of other yard games scaled to size. It would probably make a good place for a birthday party.
It’s a bit of a drive from the cities proper, but you can stop at the Asian Mall on the way there to pick up snacks and head out there for a few hours of fun and treats.
